Buddy Program

The Buddy Program at St. James allows a child with special needs to be assisted by an adult or teen in a typical Sunday School classroom. The buddy will assist the child in activities in the classroom, getting around, interacting with their peers, and any other needs they may have. Buddies allow a child with special needs to get the experience of a typical Sunday School classroom by assisting them so they are comfortable and have everything they could need.
To receive a buddy, go to: Receive a Buddy
To be a buddy to a child, go to: Be A Buddy
Please fill out the appropriate form and bring it back to St. James or email it to

Sunday School

Sundays, 9:30-10:30am
This Summer, ALL AGES are on the Mountaintop! Summer Sunday School will continue through Labor Day weekend.
Infants – 2 years olds
Sunday School for our youngest United Methodists begins in the Nursery as soon as our babies can sit in a chair. Early Christian Awareness (ECA) introduces the foundation of life-long faith formation in an interactive, song-filled atmosphere.
3 year olds – 5th grade
Sunday School at St. James is designed to help students learn to discover how they are part of God’s big story using their faith as a foundation for life. St. James Kids uses Deep Blue Kids curriculum, published by the United Methodist Publishing House in Nashville, Tennessee in PK Sunday School. Deep Blue Kids is a new, awe-inspiring resource for children that includes adventure, exciting stories, science experiments, arts and crafts, animated video storytelling, and active games—all combined into a living-faith experience that will help children discover what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ today! As a parent, you want your kids to grow up:
Making wiser choices
Building stronger relationships
Developing a deeper faith
St. James Kids strives to provide kids and parents with the tools to make life easier and a strategy for both church AND home to give kids a faith that will last forever and make St. James a place they want to be.
252 Kids is our curriculum that weaves music, stories, small group discussions, video presentations, and creative activities together to reinforce one clear and simple bottom line each week so kids can walk away and remember what matters most.

Other Programs

T2 (Tween Time) (3rd – 5th grades) Wednesdays, 5:45pm on the Mountaintop
 (Starts back August 14th, 2019!)
Designed for our older elementary students, T2 (Tween Time), provides students with an engaging way to dive into their Bibles, so they can build a strong foundation for their faith. Students are encouraged to bring a brown bag supper or join their families at Wednesday night dinner in Jones Hall at 5:15pm before coming to the Mountaintop. The first Wednesday of each month is a crowd- pleasing Pizza Night provided by the children’s ministry. No need to sign up, just join us!
Parent’s Night Out
(2nd Saturday of each month, September-May)
Parents’ Night Out is designed to provide kids with a fun, safe place to be, while parents get a brief respite (and maybe a date). The evening includes a snack supper, games and more. Designed for infants through 5th grade. Cost is $15 for the first child, $10 for each additional child. Pre-registration is required at St. James Online, www.stjameslr.org. For information contact Sarah Owens at sarah@stjameslr.org or 217-6748.
Adventure for the City
The week-long camp is scheduled for August of every year. St. James is aiming to make camp more accessible to children in our community so that every child can experience Christ-like change through outdoor adventure, authentic relationships and Biblical truth. Adventure for the City-ers will experience just about everything traditional away camps have to offer – from rock climbing to archery tag to soaking-wet water activities – supervised by the world’s most energetic counselors. For one week, they’ll worship with friends, explore God’s unchanging Word and learn what it means to be a kid who follows Christ.
For information about any children’s event, contact Sean Dunbar, Director of Children Ministries, at 217-6744 or sean@stjameslr.org.

Please join us for our annual Bible Boot Camp, an overnight extravaganza for 3rd through 5th graders, where you will learn how to use your Bible through games, friends, food, and family! Bible Boot Camp takes place at Ferncliff on August 23-24. Register here by 11:59 PM on August 18. Get ready to have some fun and learn a lot!
