worship service opportunities
Sunday mornings are a busy time at St. James, and we are always in need of volunteers! Look below for the different areas you can be of service!
Usher: In all our worship services, ushers play an important role as they are often the first person our guests and members encounter as they enter the church. Joining an usher team is a great entry point for new members to serve, as it provides a wonderful way to meet more people in the church. Contact Jan Fairman at [email protected] for more information. Communion Server: Servers assist our pastors during the communion celebration on a rotational basis. Stewards assist in setting & cleaning up communion following both the 8:30 and the 11:00 worship services. Contact Paige Carpenter at [email protected] for more information. Acolytes: St. James has a rich heritage of acolyte service for students in 5th grade through high school. Our 8:30 and 11:00am Classic, and our 9:30am Modern services all provide opportunities for our acolytes to serve. Contact Lesley Cooper at [email protected] for more information. fiser-christie missions lectureship
The Paul Martin Fiser, M.D./Rev. James and Marie Christie Endowed Missions Lectureship is envisioned to support a stimulating lecturer annually, hosted by St. James, on the topic of the church’s responsibility for and activities in, missions. The lectureship was established in memory of three individuals: Dr. Paul Martin Fiser, Marie Harrell Christie, and Rev. James Edward Christie.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you...” Join us for this year’s Fiser Christie Missions Lectureship featuring guest speaker Rev. Mark DeYmaz, pastor and founder of Mosaic Church in southwest Little Rock. Mark will preach in all services on Sunday, November 9, sharing the vision and ministry of this vibrant, multiethnic church committed to transforming lives in our city. Then, on Saturday, November 15, join us for a Day of Learning and Serving at Mosaic Church. The day begins at 9:30 AM with a facility tour, followed by a hands-on community service project and lunch with conversation—wrapping up by 1:00 PM. This free event is open to children, youth, and adults. Transportation will be provided from St. James for those who’d like to travel together or need assistance. For more information, contact Rev. Jessica Durand at [email protected] or 501-217-6710. |
Serve LocallyWe love our Little Rock family! At St. James, we are passionate about our local community, and we partner with multiple local nonprofits in Little Rock to help serve our neighbors. |
Project Transformation
For several years, St. James has partnered with Project Transformation Arkansas, a local chapter of a nationwide nonprofit.
Through the power of relationships and by leveraging a unique collaboration with local churches and community partners, Project Transformation equips young adults for leadership in the church and the world, helps amplifies God’s call with children and youth, and supports churches in being in ministry with their neighbors. St. James will be taking 15 volunteers per week this summer to Project Transformation's new campus at Oak Forest United Methodist Church here in Little Rock. We will go Wednesdays from June 1-July 30 from 10am-12pm. A shuttle will be available to and from Oak Forest from St. James, or volunteers can meet at Oak Forest. You can sign up for as many or as few weeks as you'd like! To sign up, contact Rev. Jessica Durand or Brad Sweeney. canvas community + UNDER THE BRIDGE
